Hi! I'm Sofiia Melnyk, Ukrainian illustrator and animator. In 2018 I graduated from the Animationsinstitut at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg and have been working as a freelancer since then. I have illustrated several books and music album covers, worked as an animator, animation supervisor and designer on short movies, as well as animated feature films and documentaries for TV and cinema. My own projects have more of a documentary touch.
Also me and my friend Janina Putzker have started the female creative collective Kinky Udders. There we explore a female view on sex and body, creating funny erotic animations. Some of them were already part of several exhibitions.
Furthermore I'm working with theatre, creating live visualisation for plays and audio-visual performances. My frequent partners are GOGOL FEST and Dakh theatre but I have also worked with others, for example Deutsches Theater Berlin and Das Dokumentartheater Berlin.
After the beginning of the full-scale russian invasion in Ukraine I have been exploring this topic in my work, participating in projects which are explaining Ukrainian issues to the world and are promoting Ukrainian art.
I love to combine animation with literature, illustrate music and I am a big AnimaDoc fan.
